I have driven past this stepped ledge thousands of times. Located in a light-industrial area of a nearby suburb, the ledge can be seen nestled amongst factories that never seem to close. That’s always made it difficult to find a time to attempt skate the ledge. I hadn’t noticed the addition of the barriers until today. From the road they look like a makeshift DIY thing cobbled together by the small group of skaters I had occasionally seen when I was driving by in my car. Up close, the barriers tell a different story. They seem to be strategically placed to act as deterrent to skaters, not placed by skaters as an enhancement to the ledge. A new obstacle that results in a new way of thinking.
