Where almost 40,000 boxes were in operation in 2009, less than 30,000 were still in use in 2013 with Telstra running 18,000 in 2014. Telstra will roll out 500,000 Wi-Fi hotspots around Australia by mid-2015 by converting shops, customers and part of its ageing payphone network to include wireless broadband connections.
