So, that’s the end of the EpCop Case.

Detective Peterovski reflects on gathering evidence for RPL

On his way home from a field trip in the countryside of South Korea, Detective Peterovski takes some time to reflect on the evidence he has gathered on RPL for the EpCoP Case. The case is looking rather grim and it looks like the detective won’t be able to catch RPL and wrap up the investigation before his retirement on the 30th September 2011.

Detective Peterovski talks to Dr Lee about solving problems

Sometimes when you’re trying to solve a problem it can feel like there’s no possible resolution. It may seem obvious, but talking to someone who has experience in solving problems can often help you identify your own resolution. They may not even work in the same profession or industry as you. At first glance it may seem they won’t be able to help you solve your problem, but if you get the opportunity to talk to them you may find their approach to solving problems can be applied to your situation.

With this in mind, I took the opportunity to talk to one of South Korea’s finest General surgeons, Dr Lee Yong Tekk. I asked Dr Lee about how he solves problems, the process he follows when diagnosing patients and how he determines what action he should take. My brief conversation with Dr Lee takes place on the esplanade of Gwangan beach in Busan, South Korea. Please note some beachside ambience can be heard in this recording.

Detective Peterovski is not feeling so well

It’s the end of the fifth week of the EpCoP Case and Detective Peterovski has been struck down by a mystery illness. The mystery illness has made the detective bed-ridden for the last two days.
Reporting from his sick bed in a hotel room in Busan, South Korea, the detective talks about his condition and the status of the investigation.

Detective Peterovski departs for Busan, South Korea

So, it’s settled. The recently discovered clue from Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL) has forced Detective Peterovski to make a choice. If he’s happy to retire after 30 years of service without solving his last case, he can stay at home. If he wants to catch his arch enemy RPL, he must leave his hometown for the distant shores of Busan, South Korea.

Here, Detective Peterovski gives his last report from the EpCoP Case headquarters before he boards his flight. Good luck detective, we hope you catch your man.

The clue has been decrypted – A message from RPL to Detective Peterovski

The clue that was stashed around suburban Melbourne by Detective Peterovski’s arch-enemy Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL)  has finally been decrypted by the team at the EPCop Agency. The team has processed the data and it turns out that it’s a personal message from RPL to Detective Peterovski. A message that tuants Detective Peterovski. A message that challenges Detective Peterovski to track down down RPL at all costs. A challenge that may force Detective Peterovski to take the EpCoP Case to the other side of the world. Is Detective Peterovski prepared to take that final step?

The clue from RPL has been found!

*NEWS FLASH* After four days of steady-sleuthing and a solid investigation throughout downtown Melbourne, the mysterious clue from (RPL) has been found! EpCoP agents have yet to discover the clue from RPL!

It’s been fours days since Detective Ryan Peterovski’s arch enemy Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL) left a mysterious clue for the EpCoP Case agents at a location in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. As you can see from the video footage shot by Detective Peterovski earlier this morning, RPL’s clue is yet to be discovered.

EpCop Agents…you know what to do! Check out the Location of a clue from RPL map and go get the clue!

The EpCoP Case: Behind the scenes – A look at the materials, location and maps used to plan and hide the location of a clue from RPL

For the third week of the EpCop Case I decided to move away from using virtual clues and evidence attached to the EpCop Case Evidence Map that I’d been using previously. Instead, I decided to hide a USB stick (containing another clue to the whereabouts of Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL)) at a real location in Melbourne, Australia. The Location of a clue from RPL was introduced into the EpCop Case narrative by the RPL character. The mystery clue was ‘encrypted’ as a QR code that was concealed inside an envelope that was discovered by Detective Peterovski in week two of the EpCop Case.

My plan was for people who were following or playing along with the Detective Peterovski’s EpCoP Case, people taking part in the EpCoP MOOC or even random people  to find the hidden item. I wasn’t sure how many people in Melbourne were taking part in the EPCoP MOOC or where they were located. I didn’t even know if people could be bothered taking part in my solo attempt at an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) inside an existing and perfectly functioning online course.  I just wanted to ‘plant’ the clue. I  thought it would be fun way to shift the EpCop Case from a virtual to a real space. Leaving an item in the real world also made the clue feel like a real artefact. The kind of artefect you might expect to find in week four of the EpCoP MOOC.

It’s been three days since I planted the clue from RPL. I’m not sure if it has been discovered by an agent or if it has been found by someone else and just thrown away. I won’t reveal the details of the media that was stored on the USB stick. I can say it contains a further clue to the whereabouts of RPL . I’ll upload the media and other artefacts related to the EpCop Case towards the end of week four.

Here are some photographs of the materials, location and maps I used to plan and hide the USB stick.

The cache – containing a USB stick containing media, a message with instructions and a waterproof zip-lock bag. The gaffa tape was used to secure the cache to the metal pole.

Detective Peterovski thinks about the purpose of his blog

When you’re a detective there’s no right or wrong time to think. Detective Peterovski takes some time out from his Saturday afternoon grocery shopping to think a little more about the purpose of his blog and the progress of the EpCop Case.

So I’ve been thinking…

What does Detective Peterovski”s plan look like?

What does Detective Peterovski’s plan look like? At the moment, his plan looks like it follows an interative cycle of creation and review. How can a plan like this help Detective Peterovski solve the EpCop Case?

Detective Peterovski’s dream

The team in the lab finally managed to extract and decrypt the contents of the media device that was recently discovered by Detective Peterovski. The contents of the media device took Peterovski and all of the other EpCoP agents by suprise!

Just what does Peterovski’s dream mean? How was this nightmarish vision recorded on the media device and how does it relate to the EpCop Case? Is this the work of Detective Peterovski’s arch enemy Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL)?

Detective Ryan Peterovski reflects on the achievements of the first week

With his investigation grinding to a halt due to bad weather, a slightly morose Detective Ryan Peterovski takes time out to reflect on the achievements of the first week of the EpCop Case.

And so, the first week of the EpCop Case draws to a close.

Detective Peterovski discovers his first piece of evidence

While  conducting his investigation throughout Melbourne’s central business district, Detective Ryan Peterovski discovers his first piece of evidence. Could this discovery put him one step closer to catching his arch enemy Richard Paddy Lawrence (RPL) and closing the EpCop Case?

Hopefully, this discovery will be the first of many throughout the duration of the EpCop Case. As a way to easily record the type and location of each piece of evidence, Detective Peterovski has created a EpCop Case Evidence Location Map. The map is open and any EpCop MOOC agent is welcome to contribute evidence. There are some rules of engagement. You’re welcome to remain Anonymous if you really want to, but when contributing to the EpCop Case Evidence Location Map it would be great if you could:

  1. take a photo of the evidence at the location it was found and upload it to the map.
  2. label the photo or list the evidence type (for example, shoe, book or photo), location (for example, Melbourne, Australia) and date (for example, 5 August 2011).
  3. describe how the evidence could be used in court (if Richard Paddy Lawrence  eventually goes to trial) or how it could contribute to preparing an e-portfolio and solving the Epcop Case.
  4. tweet your contribution to @DetRyanPeterovs.

Thanks and good luck EpCoP agents!
